Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized eight bottles of Indian liquor during an anti-smuggling drive in a border area of Nilphamari early on Sunday.
The seizure took place within the jurisdiction of the 56 BGB Battalion in Nilphamari district.
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a regular patrol team from the Bogdabuṛi Border Outpost conducted the operation at around 5:40am.
The patrol, led by Havildar Tapan Kumar Biswas, carried out the drive about 60 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 784/2-S.
The operation was conducted at Goriardanga Kuwaiti Mosque area under Muktirhat post office, Bhogdaburi Union No 1, Domar upazila of Nilphamari district.
During the drive, the patrol recovered eight bottles of Indian liquor that had been smuggled from India.
The items were found abandoned and no one was detained at the scene. The estimated seizure value is Tk 12,000.
Commanding Officer of the 56 BGB Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Badruddoza, said regular patrols and intelligence operations continue to prevent smuggling along the border.
He said the force follows a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and all forms of smuggling, in line with directives from BGB headquarters.
BGB officials said strict surveillance remains in place across the border areas and the force will continue its tough stance to prevent smuggling in the future.
