Confusion has been created regarding the whereabouts of Faisal Karim Masud, the main accused in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. In a video recently circulated on social media, Faisal has claimed to be in Dubai.
After Hadi’s murder, the police in Bangladesh initially said they knew nothing regarding Faisal’s whereabouts. A few days later, however, the police claimed that Faisal had illegally fled to India through the Meghalaya border.
However, this was refuted by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Meghalaya Police, stating that they have no evidence or information that anyone named Faisal had crossed the border and entered India.
Faisal’s viral video
A 4-minute 1-second video began to spread on social media on Wednesday. In it, a young man wearing a brown hoodie introduces himself as Faisal Karim Masud. In the video, he is heard saying: “I am in no way involved in Hadi’s murder. This is a conspiracy. Due to the situation, I was forced to leave the country and am currently in Dubai.”
The self-identifying Faisal further claims that he had a 5-year multiple entry visa for Dubai, managing to leave the country with great difficulty and reach Dubai. However, he did not give any details about which route he had taken or how he had gone there.
In the video, the young man admits knowing the deceased Sharif Osman Hadi. He states that he is associated with an IT company. It was through this work that he used to visit Hadi’s office, and they had developed contact. However, knowing Osman Hadi does not mean that he was involved in the murder, he says.
Following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, the offices of Prothom Alo, The Daily Star and Chhayanaut were attacked and vandalised. In addition, Inqilab Moncho has also carried out continuous protests since Hadi’s death, demanding the arrest of those responsible for his killing.
