BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers in an attack in Sudan.
In a Facebook media post, Tarique said he is deeply saddened and heartbroken by the news of the attack on a United Nations peacekeeping base in the Abyei. The attack claimed the lives of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and left eight others injured, including three female soldiers.
He honoured the fallen personnel, describing them as brave soldiers who served under the UN flag to protect world peace and are a source of great pride for our nation. Their sacrifice will always be remembered by Bangladesh.
Tarique offered prayers for the forgiveness of the souls of the deceased and expressed his deepest sympathy to their grieving families. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured soldiers and called on all concerned to stand by them during this difficult time.
Reflecting on his personal connection to the military, he noted, “As the son of a decorated army officer, I have always been passionately inspired by the exceptional professionalism, courage, and sacrifice of the Bangladesh Army.”
He concluded his message by calling for enhanced safety measures for peacekeepers, saying, “In the current situation, I believe the international community must take stronger and more effective steps to ensure the safety of peacekeepers.”
