A bus parked at the Sonapur Bus Terminal in Noakhali’s Sadar upazila caught fire late Friday night.
The incident occurred around 10pm when a bus of Subarna Super Drutojan Service was parked along the roadside on the northern side of the terminal.
The driver and his assistant had reportedly left the vehicle after parking it on the northern side of the terminal earlier in the evening.
Police and local sources said the fire was first noticed at about 9:45pm by passengers of a passing CNG-run auto-rickshaw. Local residents rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control by pouring water on the bus.
Officer-in-Charge of Sudharam Police Station Mohammad Touhidul Islam said preliminary findings suggest the fire originated from a mosquito coil that had been lit inside the bus while the driver’s assistants went out for dinner. As a result, four to five seats inside the bus were burned.
No casualties were reported, and further investigation is under way.
