Thirty employees of Square Group stood guard overnight over a helicopter that made an emergency landing in a farmland due to a mechanical fault.
The incident occurred around 4:30pm on Tuesday in Kodikhola Chak area of Atigram in Manikganj. The staff were still seen keeping watch on the helicopter on Wednesday morning.
According to the company, the helicopter, a Square Group-owned S2–AGP, had taken off from Pabna for Dhaka. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot detected a mechanical issue and made a precautionary landing in the open farmland, skillfully bringing the aircraft down without any harm.
The emergency landing attracted hundreds of curious locals from nearby villages. To ensure safety and prevent crowds from approaching, the company assigned its staff to guard the helicopter.
Square Group confirmed that no damage occurred during the landing and that all six passengers onboard were safe. Several of the passengers are close associates of the company’s Managing Director, Tapan Chowdhury. They were later transported to Dhaka on another helicopter.
Aircraft technician Mohammad Shibbir Hossain said the helicopter’s supporting lead-acid aviation battery has been sent to Dhaka for inspection and charging as part of fault diagnosis. He added that Square Group’s chief technical team is expected to arrive at the site on Wednesday to begin complete repairs.
