The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation against former president Abdul Hamid over allegations of causing Tk24 crore in state losses and amassing illegal wealth through decoration and beautification works in the Nikunja-1 area.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain confirmed the information to the media.
He said that the commission never conducts investigations based on a person’s identity. The main issue is the objectivity of the allegation, he added.
Hamid owns a three‑storey duplex house on plot no. 6, Lake Drive Road, in the Nikunja area of the capital. After completing his presidential tenure, he moved into the house with his family in April 2023.
Allegations have surfaced that construction of decorative decks, a hanging bridge, and modern lamp posts along the canal, as well as restrictions on walking on both sides of the road adjacent to the house, have caused the state financial losses amounting to crores of taka.
