Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan said on Sunday that the Bangladesh Navy has prepared 5,000 personnel to carry out duties in the upcoming national parliamentary election, pledging to fulfil all responsibilities assigned to the force.
He made the remarks at the winter President’s Parade at the Bangladesh Naval Academy in Chattogram, where the Midshipmen 2023 Batch completed their training.
Admiral Hassan said the Navy is not only contributing to marine resource extraction in the Bay of Bengal and the implementation of the blue economy but is also ensuring security for domestic and foreign vessels and key installations within Bangladesh’s maritime boundaries.
He said the Navy is enhancing its capabilities as a modern, technology-driven three-dimensional force through simulation-based training, new platforms and indigenous technological innovation. The force is engaged in safeguarding maritime sovereignty, protecting marine resources, combating sea crimes, providing humanitarian assistance during natural disasters at home and abroad, maintaining law and order during crises, conducting patrols and rescue operations under ‘aid to civil power’, and securing vital national installations.
He added that warship construction using local technology is underway at three shipyards.
Speaking about Chattogram Port, the Navy chief said operational efficiency at the New Mooring Container Terminal has increased since a Navy-run organisation took over its management.
Earlier, Admiral Hassan inspected the parade and received the salute.
A total of 31 midshipmen, including two women, were commissioned as sub-lieutenants after completing three years of intensive training. Midshipman Syed Tahsin Ahmed BN received the Sword of Honour as the best all-round trainee, while Midshipman SM Abrar Obaid BN earned the Navy Chief’s Gold Medal for achieving the second-highest training score.
Senior officials from the Army, Navy and Air Force, government representatives, local dignitaries and families of the newly commissioned officers attended the ceremony.
