The National Citizen Party (NCP) has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over the killing of two Bangladeshi civilians by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), saying such actions are unacceptable under international law, human rights principles and diplomatic norms.
In a statement issued Thursday, the party said the incident, along with all past cases of border killings, requires a fair, transparent, credible and independent investigation.
The NCP said the Bangladesh government must provide full legal and financial support to the victims’ families and seek appropriate compensation from the Indian government.
It added that India must immediately take effective steps to stop the longstanding pattern of criminal behaviour by its border forces.
The party urged global human rights organisations to take the matter seriously so that no one can commit such unlawful and inhumane acts in violation of international law.
The NCP said it believes in balanced and dignified relations with all neighbouring countries and wants friendly ties with their people.
The statement added that justice in past incidents, including the killing of Felani, could have prevented the recurrence of such tragedies.
The NCP urged the Bangladesh government to conduct full investigations into all border killings and human rights violations and present the findings to the international community.
