Bangladeshi stars Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan are set to be among the most closely watched names when the IPL mini auction takes place in Abu Dhabi on 16 December, after they were listed with two of the highest base prices among more than one thousand registered players.
According to details shared with franchises after the 30 November registration deadline, 1,355 cricketers have put their names forward for the auction. Mustafizur features in the elite group of 45 players with a two crore rupee base price, a bracket dominated by overseas candidates. Shakib sits just below that level, entering with a base price of one crore rupees as he seeks another IPL opportunity.
Franchises can build squads of up to 25 players and will attempt to fill 77 vacancies, 31 of them for overseas cricketers. With Bangladesh continuing to supply specialist skills that suit the league’s demands, both Mustafizur and Shakib are expected to attract attention in bidding rooms that have grown more strategic with tighter budgets and defined role profiles.
Mustafizur’s left arm seam remains a valued commodity in short format cricket, particularly his death overs control, while Shakib offers a rare blend of top order stability and left arm spin. Their price tiers reflect the expectation that teams will weigh experience and versatility heavily, especially with several high profile all rounders such as Moeen Ali, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis choosing not to register.
Although the wider auction field includes registrations from 14 countries, Bangladeshi interest is centred on whether its two senior players can again secure impactful IPL roles. The ten franchises will submit their final shortlists by 5 December before bidding begins in the Emirates.
