Unidentified miscreants set fire to the July Memorial at Paschim Sewta–Manra intersection in Manikganj town on early Monday.
The incident occurred around 3am when tyres placed in front of the memorial were set alight, leaving parts of the structure charred and blackened.
Police sources said a private car arrived at the spot under the cover of darkness. Two individuals got out, poured petrol on the tyres and set them on fire before fleeing.
Police later confirmed the incident after reviewing CCTV footage. A team rushed to the scene and began a primary investigation.
Condemning the act, Nahid Monir, former member secretary of Baisammabirodhi Chhatra Andolon’s Manikganj district unit, said, “This arson was carried out deliberately to defame the July memory. We strongly condemn it and urge law enforcement to arrest the culprits immediately.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Salauddin said investigators are analysing CCTV footage to identify those involved.
“We are looking into who committed the act and why. The perpetrators will be brought under the law very soon,” he added.
