BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s condition is stable, and her treatment is ongoing under the close observation of doctors, said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Speaking to the media on Monday afternoon, he said, “Madam’s physical condition is stable. Her treatment is ongoing and being observed by doctors. Various media outlets have also been spreading misinformation about her,” adding that this was not right and people should not be misled.
At the same time, the BNP Secretary General called on party leaders and workers, as well as the people of the country, to pray to the Almighty Allah for Khaleda Zia’s swift recovery.
The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi revealed that Khaleda Zia’s treatment was continuing in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital as before.
He said, “Specialist doctors are engaged in providing round-the-clock medical care. From what we have been able to learn from them, her treatment is ongoing, that is the update. All of you please pray that Allah returns her to us in good health.”
Earlier, on Monday morning, when asked about the chairperson’s physical condition at an event held at the chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Fakhrul said that she was treatment is ongoing with both local and foreign doctors involved.
“Khaleda Zia is currently on ventilator support. From CCU to ICU, and then ventilator or life support — you (reporters) may call it whatever you like,” he said.
Noting that doctors from the UK and the US had already been involved in her treatment, he said that doctors from China have now also joined. “They are all doing their utmost. The rest is in Allah’s hands,” he said.
However, according to several sources in the government, on condition of anonymity, confirmed to TIMES of Bangladesh on condition of anonymity, that the BNP chairperson was on life support.
BNP Vice Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan said that Khaleda Zia is in a “very critical” condition.
Khaleda Zia has been admitted to Evercare Hospital since 23 November. Following examinations, doctors detected an infection in her lungs, prompting concerns over her critical condition.
