The President of Istanbul-based non-profit Islamic organization IDDEF, Mehmet Turan, met with Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan on Saturday to discuss plans for the redevelopment of the Central Mosque Complex at the university.
Turan was accompanied by Salahuddin Ceylan, International Coordinator for IDDEF, reads a press release.
The meeting was also attended by DU Treasurer Professor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Associate Professor Abdullah Al Mahmud of the World Religion and Culture Department, the project architect, and other officials from both DU and IDDEF.
Officials said the proposed mosque complex will feature modern facilities and dedicated spaces for education and research.
A digital survey for the project has already been completed, and the final design is now in progress. Construction is expected to start after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed between the university and IDDEF.
