FX has greenlit a live-action series adaptation of Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry’ video games, created by Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney, Variety reports.
McElhenney, who will also star, co-created the series, which will stream on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally. Following an anthology format like the games, each season will feature a new cast and setting. Plot details remain under wraps.
“Working with Noah Hawley is a dream realised,” said McElhenney. “Ubisoft has entrusted us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created and my FX family continues to support me every step of the way.”
The series marks a continuation of both creators’ long-standing relationship with FX. McElhenney created and stars in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, which aired its 17th season earlier this year, and executive produces the Emmy-winning docuseries ‘Welcome to Wrexham’. Hawley is known for the FX anthology series ‘Fargo’, ‘Legion’ and the recently renewed sci-fi series ‘Alien: Earth’.
“What I love about the Far Cry franchise is its anthology nature,” said Hawley. “Each season can explore humanity in a new way, much like Fargo.”
This will be the first live-action TV adaptation of Far Cry. Previous adaptations include a 2008 direct-to-video film and the Netflix animated series ‘Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix’ (2023).
Since its debut in 2004, the Far Cry series has released six main games and numerous spin-offs, with over 100 million unique players worldwide.
