Members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Islamic University (IU) have urged the administration to introduce Starlink satellite internet on campus to ensure high-speed and uninterrupted connectivity for academic and administrative purposes.
A delegation, led by Yashirul Kabir Saurav, member secretary of the student movement, and Chief Organiser Golam Rabbani, met with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah on Tuesday at the university’s administration building to submit a memorandum formally requesting the service.
The memorandum highlighted that the university’s existing internet infrastructure has long been slow, irregular, and unstable, creating major obstacles for modern teaching, research, and administrative operations.
The student leaders emphasised that high-speed internet is crucial for quality education, efficient research, global collaboration, and transparent administration.
It also noted that leading universities worldwide have already adopted Starlink Satellite Internet, resulting in transformative advances in academic and technological domains.
In Bangladesh, the service has been introduced on a pilot basis in selected public and private institutions.
According to the students, implementing Starlink Internet at IU would unlock new opportunities for online learning and research, facilitate faster access to international journals and resources, improve administrative database management, and help the university take a leading role in realising the “Smart Bangladesh” vision.
The delegation expressed hope that the administration would consider the matter with urgency and take prompt action.
