Bangladesh Army clarified its position as a group of dismissed and discharged former members of the force, under the banner of various former service platforms, staged a protest on Sunday near the National Press Club, demanding reinstatement, revocation of disciplinary actions, and financial compensation.

In an effort to seek a peaceful resolution, a release of the army said, an official delegation from the Bangladesh Army visited the protest site to hear the grievances of the former personnel. The delegation listened with patience and empathy and assured the demonstrators that all demands would be reviewed in accordance with military regulations. Protesters were also urged to submit their complaints directly to the proper authorities instead of channeling them through third-party organisations.

According to official records, the army has already received 802 applications for review from dismissed members as of 14 May 2025. Of these, 106 cases have been resolved while the rest remain under active consideration, handled with “maximum sincerity and humanitarian concern,” the army stated.

However, what began as a peaceful engagement took an unfortunate turn. Following the meetings, a faction of the demonstrators reportedly incited unrest by blocking the path of the army’s departing delegation and hurling projectiles at law enforcement personnel while shouting abusive slogans.

Despite continued restraint from the military throughout the day, it said, law enforcement was eventually compelled to disperse a segment of the protesters who were deemed disruptive.

“The Bangladesh Army, while reaffirming its commitment to fairness and accountability, strongly condemned any provocative behavior or acts that undermine public order or the military’s institutional integrity. The armed forces once again called on all stakeholders to act with responsibility, respect constitutional norms, and uphold the discipline that is vital to national stability.”
