A Dhaka court has directed Shahbagh police to investigate the case filed by Dhaka University teacher and Assistant Proctor Sheherin Amin Bhuiya Monami, over the distortion and circulation of her photos on Facebook.

The court ordered that the investigation report be submitted by December 9.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid issued the order on Tuesday after accepting the case statement. Earlier on Monday, Monami filed the case with Shahbagh police station under the Cyber Security Act.

The accused in the case are journalist and activist Mujtaba Khondaker, writer and activist Mohiuddin Mohammad, Dhaka College student Nirab Hossain, and a man named Ashfaq Hossain Evan.

According to the complaint, Monami’s photographs were distorted and circulated through several Facebook accounts, causing defamation and mental distress.

The case statement further said that in recent days, her edited and AI-generated distorted images were repeatedly posted from various Facebook IDs along with indecent and defamatory comments about her.
