The website of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) online news portal, DMP News, has been inaccessible since Sunday morning after offensive political messages and images depicting violence appeared on the site late Saturday night.

Visitors to the website saw images of police officers, scenes of violence and a graphic carrying the message: “Police, no matter how much you beat us, can you forget 5 August?” Background music was also playing on the website at the time.

Attempts to access the website since Sunday morning have been unsuccessful. As a result, the portal’s regular operations appear to have been disrupted following Saturday night’s incident.

Although questions have arisen over whether the website was targeted in a cyberattack or hacking incident, no official confirmation has been received so far.

According to information published on its website, DMP News is the online news portal of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. It publishes reports on various DMP activities, crime-related developments, public awareness information and other police-related updates.

Attempts were made to contact several officials of the DMP Media Division by phone and text message for comment on the incident, but none could be reached.
