The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday announced the names of 10 women candidates who will contest 12 constituencies in the 13th national parliamentary elections.
The announcement was made at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka, where party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir unveiled the names of 237 candidates nationwide under the party’s election symbol, the “dhaner shish” (sheaf of paddy).
Among them, only 10 women have been nominated for a total of 12 seats.
Party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is set to contest from three constituencies: Dinajpur-3, Bogra-7, and Feni-1.
Other women candidates include Farzana Sharmin from Natore-1, MA Sabira Sultana from Jessore-2, Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto from Jhalakathi-2, Sansila Zebrin from Sherpur-1, Afroza Khan Rita from Manikganj-3, Sanjida Islam Tuli from Dhaka-14, Shama Obayed Islam from Faridpur-2, Tahsina Rushdir Luna from Sylhet-2, and Nayab Yusuf Ahmed from Faridpur-3.
