In the last 24 hours (from 8 am Friday to 8 am Saturday), nine more children have died from measles and its symptoms across the country. During the same period, 1,435 new cases of measles or measles-like symptoms were identified in children.
This information was provided in a press release sent by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Saturday.
The release stated that 489 children were confirmed to have measles in the last 24 hours, while 949 children showed symptoms of the disease. Of the nine deceased children, three were confirmed to have measles, while the other six died with measles-like symptoms.
According to regional statistics, the highest number of deaths occurred in Dhaka Division, with three children dying, followed by three children in Sylhet, two in Khulna, and one in Barishal.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, since 15 March, a total of 47,656 suspected measles cases have been reported in the country, of which 6,979 have been confirmed. During this period, 343 children have died (60 from confirmed measles and 283 from symptoms).
Currently, 33,631 children are hospitalised across various hospitals in the country, while 29,746 have recovered and returned home.
