French police arrested 63 people in Paris, Lyon, and Avignon after Senegal fans clashed with officers during AFCON celebrations.
The trouble started on the night of 18 January. Senegal had just beaten Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations final. Supporters gathered in large numbers across the Paris region and in other cities.
The celebrations soon turned tense in some areas. Crowds blocked roads and slowed traffic. Some people set off fireworks. Police then moved in to control the situation.
Authorities said 14 police officers suffered minor injuries. Police later increased patrols and cleared several streets. Calm returned slowly in many places.
France’s Interior Ministry said police acted quickly and worked together to keep order. Senegal’s title win brought joy for many fans. But the scenes in France also created a tough night for the authorities.
