A Dhaka court ordered the freezing of 56 bank and financial accounts belonging to former health minister AFM Ruhul Haque and individuals associated with him. On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan.
According to the ACC petition statement, among the 56 accounts, 39 are under Ruhul Haque’s name, two belong to his wife, Ela Haque, and 15 are in the name of Ziaul Haque. The total balance of these accounts amounts to Tk 15.4 crore.
The ACC stated in its petition that Ruhul Haque and his associates carried out suspicious transactions involving large sums of money through these accounts. During the investigation, credible sources revealed that they are attempting to transfer, relocate, mortgage, or misuse the funds. Therefore, the freezing order was necessary to ensure a fair investigation.
The same court also ordered the attachment of land and houses worth over Tk4 crore (registered value) belonging to BRTA Assistant Director Md Altab Hossain and his wife, Jiasmin Ara, located across 17 places outside Dhaka.
According to the petitions, Altab Hossain owns 12 plots of land in Faridpur valued at Tk35 lakh and a plot with a house in Dhaka’s Gulshan area valued at Tk1.17 crore.
His wife, Jiasmin Ara, owns two plots and houses valued at Tk2.59 crore, as well as two plots in Faridpur valued at Tk3 lakh.
