All ministries and divisions have formulated specific action plans for 180 days, the 2026-27 fiscal year, and the next five years to implement the government’s election manifesto, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman told parliament on Wednesday.
Responding to a written question from Pabna-5 MP Md Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, the prime minister said several priority programmes have already been launched.
Under the philosophy that “the family, not the individual, is the basic unit of development”, the government has begun providing monthly Tk2,500 to female-headed households through “Family Cards”. Some 60,048 families across 36 pilot units have received the cards so far.
Additionally, “Farmer Cards” were launched on 14 April to ensure fair prices for agricultural inputs, subsidies, low-cost irrigation, and easy-term farm machinery. Over 20,700 farmers have received the cards at the pre-piloting stage.
The government has also waived agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000 in grain, crop, livestock, and fisheries sectors, allocating Tk1,567.96 crore to benefit nearly 1.32 million farmers.
Under the 180-day priority programme, monthly honorariums are being paid to employees at 4,908 mosques, 990 temples, 144 Buddhist pagodas, and 396 churches. The benefit will be extended to all religious sites gradually.
An “e-Health Card” initiative is awaiting approval, which will provide healthcare services to five districts – Khulna, Noakhali, Bogura, Sirajganj, and Narsingdi – within 180 days.
A canal excavation and re-excavation programme covering 666 canals (1,635 km) is ongoing under four ministries.
Free Wi-Fi will be introduced in 2,336 technical and 8,232 madrasa institutions within 180 days. The collateral-free loan limit for language student visas has been raised from Tk3 lakh to Tk10 lakh, especially for students going to Japan.
A sports allowance has been introduced for national athletes, with 300 athletes receiving allowances and 325 receiving sports cards so far. The ‘Notun Kuri Sports-2026’ programme to discover young talent was launched on 2 May.
The government has decided to recruit 500,000 government employees. Recruitment of 2,879 people against vacant posts in the Ministry of Public Administration is currently ongoing, the prime minister added.
