The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Wednesday opened its digital gateway for individual income tax return submissions for 2026-27 tax year.
To encourage prompt compliance, the NBR is offering a 5 per cent tax rebate for filings completed between July and September, with the benefit limited to Tk25,000.
Submissions made after September will be ineligible for this rebate, and those filing after December will face additional tax charges.
Introduced in 2021 to streamline tax services and enhance transparency, the e-Return platform has seen significant uptake, with roughly 4.7 million individuals using the service in 2025-26 tax year.
Online filing is now compulsory for regular individual taxpayers following a special order issued by the revenue board.
However, several groups are still permitted to file paper returns, provided they include the necessary documentation. These include individuals over the age of 65, persons with disabilities, Bangladeshis living abroad, and foreign nationals employed within the country.
Representatives for deceased taxpayers are also exempt from the online mandate. Taxpayers encountering technical registration issues may submit physical forms if authorised by an additional or joint commissioner of Taxes.
The e-Tax portal integrates various payment methods, including bank transfers, credit or debit cards, and mobile financial platforms such as bKash, Rocket, and Nagad.
Once filing is complete, users receive instant tax certificates and acknowledgement receipts. For assistance, taxpayers can contact the NBR’s dedicated call centre on 09643717171 during office hours on working days.
