At least five people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus rammed into pedestrians on the Dhaka-Bhanga Highway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila on Saturday night.
The accident took place around 7:45pm in the Soandi area, said Abdul Alim, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
According to police, a pickup van carrying eggs met with an accident on the highway.
As locals gathered around the vehicle to help with the rescue effort, a bus of Narail Express travelling from the opposite direction hit the pedestrians, leaving five people dead on the spot.
The incident sparked anger among locals, who later set fire to the bus.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving the report and began recovery operations.
Several injured people were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and efforts are underway to identify the victims.
