A total of 49,982 Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims have returned home from Saudi Arabia as of Wednesday, following the completion of this year’s Hajj held on May 26.
Officials said 116 return flights were operated by three designated airlines. Biman Bangladesh Airlines conducted 50 flights. Saudia Airlines operated 46 flights. Flynas Airlines operated 20 flights.
The Hajj office said 4,289 pilgrims returned under government management. A total of 45,693 returned through private travel agencies. All returns took place through the 116 flights.
Officials also confirmed that 49 Bangladeshi pilgrims died during this year’s Hajj. Of them, 33 were male and 16 were female. Among the deceased, 35 died in Makkah, 13 in Madinah and one in Jeddah. No deaths were reported in Mina or Muzdalifah.
They added that 401 pilgrims received treatment from various hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Another 25 pilgrims were hospitalised. Saudi medical centres provided treatment to 61,473 pilgrims, while the IT help desk assisted 27,315 pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah.
Officials said this year’s Hajj operations began with the first outbound flight on April 18 and ended on May 21. Return flights started on May 30 and will continue until 1 July.
