At least four people were injured, one of them critically, after a bus lost control and rammed into several vehicles in front of Abul Hotel in the city’s Malibag area on Sunday.
Witnesses and police said a “Victor Classic” bus was descending Malibag-Mouchak flyover when its brakes reportedly failed. The bus subsequently ploughed into a Jagannath University coaster bus, a microbus, and three motorcycles.
One motorcyclist sustained serious injuries during the collision. Local residents rescued the injured individuals and rushed them to a hospital for treatment. The driver and helper of the bus fled the scene immediately following the accident.
Speaking to TIMES of Bangladesh, AKM Asaduzzaman, assistant commissioner of Rampura Traffic Zone, said, “The bus driver and his assistant fled right after the accident. We have seized the bus and sent it to Hatirjheel Police Station using a wrecker”.
He added that the process of filing a case regarding the incident is currently underway.
The accident caused significant traffic congestion on Malibag DIT Road, causing hardship for commuters.
