Four more dengue patients died while 781 others were hospitalised in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), among the deceased, one was resident in Dhaka North City Corporation and the remaining three were from areas under Dhaka South City Corporation.
With these latest fatalities, the official death toll from dengue has risen to 224 this year, while the number of confirmed cases now stands at 52,885, the DGHS said in its regular bulletin issued on Thursday.
Among the new patients, 162 case were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation, 116 cases in Dhaka South City Corporation, 101 in Dhaka Division, 130 in Barisal Division (outside the city corporations)
A total of 798 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 50,209. DGHS data indicates that 67.7 per cent of the infected patients this year are male, while 32.3 per cent are female.
In 2023, Bangladesh experienced its worst dengue outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and over 321,000 hospital admissions. In 2024, the death toll was 575, and 101,214 people were hospitalised due to dengue.
