Four deputy attorney generals (DAGs) have been served show-cause notices over allegations of threatening and intimidating Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kazal at his office.
The notices, issued on Sunday, describe the behavior as “serious misconduct” and an attempt to obstruct government duties.
The Deputy Attorneys General are Md Jahirul Islam Sumon, Md Rafiqul Islam Montu, Muhammad Masud Rana and Md Ashikuzzaman Nazrul.
According to the notices, the four law officers allegedly behaved in an unruly manner at the attorney general’s office on Sunday while the attorney general was performing his official duties.
The incident reportedly took place in the presence of litigants and other law officers working at the office.
The notices further allege that the four DAGs intimidated and threatened the attorney general and warned of an “undesirable incident.”
It said CCTV footage of the incident has been preserved by the office.
Describing the alleged conduct as serious misconduct and an obstruction to government work, the notices directed the four deputy attorney generals to explain within three working days why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.
The show-cause notices were issued by Administrative Officer Md Nasir Uddin on the instruction of the attorney general.
Responding to questions from journalists, Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kazal said the matter was an internal disciplinary issue of the Attorney General’s Office.
“I do not want to comment on the matter,” he said.
