A Dhaka court has placed four Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders on a four-day remand in an Anti-Terrorism Act case filed at Ramna Police Station over the group’s procession in front of the NCP office at Bangla Motor in Dhaka.
On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order after hearing the police’s seven-day remand application. The information was confirmed by the defendant’s lawyers Md Tariqul Islam and Md Saiful Islam Saif.
The accused sent on remand are: Former general secretary of Itna Upazila Chhatra League, Mizanur Rahman; former vice-president of the Chhatra League of a private university, Sanjib Islam; member of the Awami League’s central sub-committee, Sanjib Islam; Chhatra League leader Nabed Ahmed Naba; and Roman Mia.Times
According to the case statement, the accused, members of Bangladesh Chhatra League, whose activities were banned by the interim government, held a procession on the road in front of Banglamotor’s Rupayan Tower in Ramna Model Police Station area last Friday.
During this time, the accused, along with 40-50 other unidentified individuals, raised various slogans against the government and state.
