Health officials on Wednesday reported 375 fresh cases of dengue across Bangladesh within the past 24 hours, with the southwestern Barishal region seeing the highest influx of patients at health facilities.
Of the 375 new cases, 68 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, which has emerged as the worst-affected area by the mosquito-borne disease, according to a statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The regional breakdown of the remaining cases included 54 hospitalisations in Khulna division, 53 in Dhaka division, 51 in Chattogram division, 43 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas, and 37 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas.
Additionally, 33 cases were reported in Rangpur division, 19 in Mymensingh division, 16 in Rajshahi division, and one in Sylhet division.
Since the start of the dengue onslaughts this year, Bangladesh has witnessed 38 deaths, while the total number of people affected by the disease has reached 11,570.
In comparison, dengue claimed 413 lives and affected 102,861 people in the country last year. In 2024, the disease resulted in 575 deaths and 101,214 infections.
