The 13 iron donation boxes of the historic Pagla Mosque on the bank of the Narsunda River in Kishoreganj were opened on Saturday, yielding Tk11 crore 78 lakh 48 thousand 538.
A large amount of foreign currency and gold ornaments was also found in the boxes.
The boxes were opened at around 7am, producing 35 sacks of cash, mosque authorities said.
More than 400 people took part in the counting process, including members of the mosque management committee, teachers and students of the madrasa and orphanage inside the mosque complex, students from the nearby Jamia Imdadia Madrasa, and officials and employees of Rupali Bank.
The donation boxes are usually opened every three months, but this time they were opened after three months and 27 days as two new boxes had been added.
The boxes were opened in the presence of Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and Pagla Mosque Management Committee President Mohammad Aslam Mollah, Superintendent of Police Dr SM Farhad Hossain, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mizabe Rahmat.
Earlier, on 30 August this year, the mosque’s donation boxes were opened after four months and 18 days, when a record Tk12 crore 9 lakh 37 thousand 220 was found, along with a large amount of foreign currency and gold ornaments.
