A violent dispute over a road-filling project that blocked a village drainage system left at least 30 people injured in Lakhai upazila of Habiganj.

The incident occurred at noon on Tuesday in Katihara Purba Para village under Bamai union.

According to the sources, the conflict began when a local man, Abdul Kadir, began filling a road, which resulted in the closure of a drainage channel used by the villagers.

When residents attempted to stop the work, a clash broke out between them and Kadir’s supporters.

The injured were rescued and admitted to Habiganj District Headquarters Hospital and Lakhai Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Upon receiving news of the unrest, police and army personnel were deployed to the scene to bring the situation under control.

Md Zahidul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lakhai Police Station, confirmed that the confrontation was triggered by the road-filling work. “Police reached the spot and controlled the situation. Currently, the environment remains calm,” the OC said.
