Three police personnel have been withdrawn from duty following the escape of a murder case accused from police custody in Savar, allegedly due to negligence by officers on duty.
The disciplinary action was taken against Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) Robiul Islam and Khairul Alam, and Constable Tofayel, all of whom were posted at the Bhakurta Police Camp under Savar Model Police Station.
Bhakurta Police Camp In-Charge Anwarul Islam said on Tuesday that the three officers had been attached to the Dhaka District Police Lines pending further action.
The incident involves Ashab Uddin, president of the Ward No. 5 Awami League unit in Bhakurta Union, who was arrested on Saturday in connection with a student murder case.
Following his arrest, Ashab was taken to the Bhakurta Police Camp for questioning.
Police said he later managed to flee from custody, allegedly taking advantage of negligence and a lack of vigilance by the officers responsible for guarding him.
Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nur Mohammad said a preliminary inquiry had found evidence of negligence on the part of the police personnel involved.
He said efforts were underway to locate and arrest the fugitive accused.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape is continuing.
