Three members of the same family were killed and three others seriously injured in a fatal road accident on the Jashore-Magura Highway in the early hours of Tuesday.
The accident occurred around 2am near Gaidghat Government Primary School when a private car lost control and crashed into a roadside tree.
The deceased were identified as Mahmud Hasan Zakaria alias Johnny, an internet entrepreneur, from Monirampur upazila, his father Majid Sardar, and his young daughter Sheherish.
Johnny’s wife, son, and mother were critically injured in the crash.
The rescue teams rushed them to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
According to police and local sources, the private car had been traveling from Chuadanga and was returning to its destination when the driver suddenly lost control upon reaching the Gaidghat area.
The speeding vehicle then rammed into a large banyan tree by the roadside, leaving the front portion) of the car completely crushed. Two victims died on the spot, while another later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Following reports of the crash, police and fire service personnel, assisted by local residents, quickly arrived at the scene and carried out rescue operations.
Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed or driver fatigue may have been responsible for the accident, police said.
