A three-day international conference on plant tissue culture and biotechnology began at Dhaka University on Saturday.
The conference, being held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium, was inaugurated by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Mamun Ahmed.
The event is jointly organised by the university’s Department of Botany and the Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology.
The inaugural session was presided over by association President Rakha Hari Sarkar.
Special guests included Director General of the National Institute of Biotechnology Md Sagir Ahmed and Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Md Enamul Haque, while ACI PLC Group Advisor F H Ansari was also present.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Mamun Ahmed highlighted the need to use smart biotechnology to address challenges related to food security and environmental conservation.
He said Dhaka University has taken initiatives to establish artificial intelligence-based infrastructure to strengthen education and research, which will help researchers make more effective data-driven decisions.
According to the university’s public relations office, around 250 scientists and researchers from Bangladesh and other countries are participating in the three-day international conference.
