18 individuals, including members of a juvenile gang and various other criminals, have been arrested in a special operation by the army in the Cancer Goli and surrounding areas of Rayerbazar under Mohammadpur Police Station in the capital.
During the operation, locally made sharp weapons, narcotics, mobile phones, and cash were recovered from them. Over the past few days, this was the army’s third consecutive operation in that area conducted by the Bosila Army Camp.
Sources from Bosila Army Camp stated that a special team from the camp participated in this operation, which was conducted from 9:30pm to 1am on Friday. The operation was carried out based on reliable intelligence, as criminal activities by juvenile gangs had significantly increased, causing extreme distress among local residents.
Those arrested are: Shahriar (22), Linku (44), Yasin (20), Yasin (21), Jasim (19), Swadhin (24), Riaz (18), Nizam (23), Mahabub (35), Hriday (35), Akash (30), Nidroy (18), Sunny (20), Karim (23), Rujan (30), Sakib (18), Faisal (22), and Ujjal (19).
During preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted to being regularly involved in drug dealing, snatching, extortion, and other criminal activities. It was also learned that there are multiple complaints and cases against them at various police stations.
During the operation, the following were recovered 12 swords, 2 machetes, 1 Chinese axe, 2 samurai swords, 13 smartphones, Tk40,200 from drug sales, and 125 packets of cannabis.
Locals stated that this is the army’s third operation in that area within this month. This has brought a sense of relief to the area, and they expressed gratitude towards the army.
A responsible officer from the army’s 46 Independent Infantry Brigade informed regarding this matter, stating, “After verification, the detainees will be handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for legal action. Such operations will continue to maintain law and order and preserve a fair electoral environment.”
He urged locals to assist by providing information.
