3 children including two siblings drown in Narail

Three children, including two brothers, died on Wednesday after drowning in ponds in two separate incidents in Narail Sadar Upazila.

The deceased siblings were identified as Abu Bakkar, 5, and Omar Faruque, 2, sons of Majedul Sheikh from Bhatia village. The third victim, Abdur Rahman, an 18-month-old boy and son of Bappi Sheikh, hailed from Sholpur village in the same Upazila.

In Bhatia village, the two brothers were playing near their home on Wednesday morning while their family members were busy with household work.

After they remained missing for some time, relatives began a search and discovered their bodies floating in a nearby pond at approximately 11:30am.

They were immediately rescued and rushed to Narail District Hospital, where the duty doctor at the emergency department declared them dead.

In a separate incident on Wednesday afternoon, the third victim, Abdur Rahman, drowned in a pond near his home in Sholpur village while playing.

Alok Kumar Bagchi, a physician at Narail District Hospital, confirmed that although the three children were brought to the hospital, they were declared dead on arrival.

Ajay Kumar Kundu, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incidents.

He stated that police had been sent to the scenes and the bodies would be handed over to the respective families following the completion of legal procedures.
