The Ministry of Commerce has granted permission to 247 institutions to import 100,000 tonnes of crude salt, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
It stated that these institutions can import a maximum of 429 tonnes of salt each. The approval specifies that the import must be completed within two months of opening the letter of credit.
The imported crude salt must be refined, and proof must be provided to the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) that it has been marketed as edible salt.
Otherwise, these institutions are warned that they may be blacklisted in the permit.
