Twenty-two parties reached consensus on launching joint programmes demanding trial of leaders from the 14-party alliance including the Awami League and Jatiya Party. This decision was made at a meeting held on Monday afternoon at the Gono Odhikar Parishad office in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.
The parties organised the meeting to determine steps in protest of the attack on Gono Odbhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur. BNP, Jamaat, and NCP, along with other parties, took part in the meeting.
After the meeting, Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan spoke to the media. He said that within 48 hours a judicial investigation committee must be formed to identify and punish those responsible for the attack on Nurul Haque Nur.
In addition, it was decided that protest meeting will soon be held at the Central Shaheed Minar under the initiative of all parties. At the same time, a decision was made to restore unity among all sides of the July movement by setting aside divisions.
Rashed Khan said that the attack on Nur was a test case: “They wanted to see what kind of reaction it would create.”
Among those present at the all-party meeting of 22 parties were Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Abdul Halim, BNP Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Sohail, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, along with leaders from other parties.
