Twenty-two judges who have received permanent appointment to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court will take their oath on Wednesday noon.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will administer the oaths at the Judges’ Lounge on Supreme Court premises at 1:30pm.
The President, in consultation with the Chief Justice of Bangladesh and in accordance with Article 95 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, has appointed 22 additional judges of the High Court Division as judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
A notification in this regard was issued on Tuesday by the Justice Branch-4 of the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
A total of 23 judges, including these 22, were sworn in as additional judges of the High Court Division on October 9, 2024, and 22 of them have now been made permanent.
The judges who received permanent appointment are: Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, Syed Enayet Hossain, Md Mansur Alam, Syed Zahed Mansur, KM Rasheduzzaman Raja, Md Jabid Hossain, Mubina Asaf, Kazi Waliul Islam, Ainun Nahar Siddika, Md Abdul Mannan, Tamanna Rahman Khalidi, Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud, Md Hamidur Rahman, Nasrin Akter, Sathika Hossain, Syed Mohammad Tajrul Hossain, Md Towfiq Inam, Yusuf Abdullah Sumon, Sheikh Tahsin Ali, Faiz Ahmed, Md Sagir Hossain and Shikdar Mahmudur Razi.
The public relations officer said that the Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance 2025 was issued on 21 January, and under the provisions of this ordinance, the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council was formed for the appointment of Supreme Court judges.
As the ordinance, which came into effect on the same day, mandates the appointment of High Court Division judges under Article 95 of the Constitution, the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council formulated its recommendations in line with Section 8 of the ordinance, which also requires mandatory compliance with the provisions of Section 6(2).
Among other conditions, this section stipulates that the recommended person must not be below 45 years of age.
In this context, Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury, son of BNP leader Nityai Roy Chowdhury, has been excluded from the permanent list this time.
He was sworn in as an additional judge of the High Court Division on 9 October last year.
A decision on recommending him as a permanent judge will be taken once he turns 45 on 28 February, 2026.
