Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that two lakh primary school students will receive free school uniforms, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting education.
He made the declaration while responding to parliamentary questions during a session of the National Parliament on Wednesday.
Referring to the government’s election manifesto, the prime minister said that preparations for the initiative are already underway. “We are grateful to those who voted, and it is also our duty to work for those who did not,” he stated.
In addition, the prime minister revealed that the government will launch a farmer card scheme on 14 April, coinciding with Pahela Baishakh.
The pilot programme has already enrolled approximately 22,000 farmers and will initially operate in ten districts.
Addressing concerns about financial support and inflation, Tarique Rahman clarified that no new currency will be printed for the scheme.
“The funds will be spent by marginal farmers and women within the country, boosting local economic activity,” he added.
Earlier, a proposal was raised in parliament to hold a dedicated question-and-answer session with the prime minister, which took place during Wednesday’s adjourned parliamentary session.
