At least two people were killed in a head-on collision between two buses on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Madaripur on Thursday.

The accident occurred around 11:30am in the Melkai area, when a front tyre of an Imran Paribahan bus burst, causing the vehicle to crash into an oncoming BRTC bus.

According to witnesses and fire service officials, the driver and a passenger died on the spot.

Several passengers of a battery-run rickshaw caught in the collision were injured. They were taken to nearby hospitals and clinics for treatment.

Fire service and police teams launched a rescue operation immediately after the incident, and the bodies were sent to the Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue.

Traffic on the busy highway remained suspended for hours following the crash, while police worked to clear the wreckage and restore normal movement.

Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy director of Madaripur Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the deaths.
