Two friends were returning home on a bike after playing badminton at night, but tragedy struck when a truck ran them over in Rajbari.
The deceased were identified as Miraz Sheikh, 19, son of Ibrahim Sheikh, and Sajib, 17, son of Saidul Islam. Both were residents of Kurapara in Pangsha municipality.
The accident took place around 10pm on Wednesday on the Rajbari–Kushtia highway near the Aziz Sardar bus stand at Pangsha, said Pangsha Highway Police Station Inspector Masudur Rahman Murad.
Locals said Miraz and Sajib had finished playing badminton near the bus stand and were heading home on a motorcycle. As they reached the front of the Pangsha filling station, a truck rammed them from behind, leaving Sajib dead on the spot.
Critically injured, Miraz was rushed to Pangsha Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctor Md Roknuzzaman declared him dead.
Legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway, he added.
