Sunshine Outdoor (BD), a British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong‑based outdoor products maker, will invest $15 million to build a tent and camping equipment manufacturing facility at the BEPZA Economic Zone in Mirsharai, Chattogram, the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) said in a press statement. The project is expected to produce 1.5 million outdoor products annually and create nearly 2,975 jobs for Bangladeshi workers, officials said.
A plot lease agreement for the project was signed on Wednesday at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka between BEPZA and Sunshine Outdoor, which will make products ranging from tents and canopies to backpacks and inflatable mattresses. The line‑up will also include duffel bags, waterproof dry bags, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, carpets, mats, folding chairs and storage bins, the company said in press remarks.
The lease was signed by BEPZA Executive Director for Investment Promotion Tanvir Hossain and Sunshine Outdoor Chairman Liang Difa, in a ceremony witnessed by BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain.
Moazzem Hossain welcomed the investment and thanked Sunshine Outdoor for choosing Bangladesh and the BEPZA Economic Zone as its manufacturing base, assuring institutional support to facilitate smooth business operations. He said the project is expected to bolster BEPZA’s efforts to diversify exports.
The ceremony was attended by top BEPZA officials including Member for Engineering Abdullah Al Mamun, Executive Director for Enterprise Services Khorshid Alam, Executive Director for Administration Samir Biswas and Executive Director for Public Relations Khadiza Parvin, alongside senior representatives from Sunshine Outdoor.
The new facility is part of Bangladesh’s broader strategy to attract foreign investment into export‑oriented manufacturing. BEPZA’s economic zones offer incentives and infrastructure aimed at encouraging foreign firms to set up production bases in the country, officials said.
Sunshine Outdoor said it will begin detailed planning and site development soon, with a view to starting production ahead of peak global demand for outdoor recreational products.
The investment follows a series of recent foreign commitments to Bangladesh’s industrial parks, signalling growing investor confidence in the country’s manufacturing potential and export prospects.
Sunshine Outdoor’s move is likely to support local job creation beyond direct factory hires, with ancillary demand expected for logistics, packaging and supply services as part of the firm’s operation in Mirsharai.
