The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the private sector at the consumer level has increased by Tk4.42 per kg. The price for a 12kg cylinder for the month of January has been set at Tk1,306.
In December, this price was Tk1,253, ie, the price for a 12 kg cylinder of LPG has increased by Tk53 in January. Last month, the price had increased by Tk38.
On Sunday, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Chairman Jalal Ahmed announced this price at a press conference. It was informed that the new rate will be effective from 6pm on Sunday. The organisation determines the price of LPG every month.
The 12kg LPG cylinder is most used for household purposes. However, for the past month, there has been a supply shortage of LPG. LPG sellers are charging Tk800 to Tk1,000 extra per cylinder. Often, even with the additional price, a 12kg cylinder is not available.
The BERC chairman has said, however, that businessowners have stated that they are selling to distributors at the fixed price at the production level. The Department of Consumer Rights Protection is conducting raids regarding the extra price at the retail level.
“If complaints are received, measures will certainly be taken,” he added.
According to BERC’s new rate, the price of private sector LPG including value added tax (VAT) has been set at Tk108.83 per kg. Last month, it was Tk104.41. This means that the price has increased by Tk4.42 per kg this month.
The Saudi Arabian company Aramco publishes the price of these two components of LPG every month. This is referred to as the Saudi Cargo Price (CP).
