Police have arrested 12 activists of the Awami League and its affiliate organisations in connection with a “flash procession” held in Chattogram.

The arrests were carried out during separate raids across the city, starting from Friday after the procession until Saturday afternoon.

Kotwali Police Station confirmed the details of the operations in a press release issued on Saturday afternoon.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tanvir Hasan (27), Moslem Uddin (40), Bipu Ghosh Bilu (55), Nahid Hossain (19), Saiful Islam (20), Nausher Uddin Chowdhury (21), Jewel (24), Alal (21), Asif (22), Shuva Rahman (22), Sourav Dewanji (29), and Imam Hossain Sadman (22).

According to the police, a sudden procession was brought out on Friday in front of the Railway Bohumukhi High School by members of the proscribed Chhatra League and other banned affiliates of the Awami League.

Following the incident, law enforcement identified those involved and conducted operations in various areas of the city to apprehend them.

Md Aftab Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, stated that a case has been filed against the 12 detainees under the Anti-Terrorism Act. They have subsequently been sent to court.
