Eleven more people have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of these, two deaths were confirmed as measles, while nine remain suspected cases.
According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,264 new suspected cases and 73 confirmed cases were identified across the country during the same period.
Official data from the DGHS reveals that between 15 March and 19 May, the total number of suspected measles patients in the country has risen to 56,586, with 7,929 cases confirmed through laboratory testing.
During this period, a total of 398 people died with symptoms of the disease (suspected), while 77 deaths have been officially confirmed as measles-related.
Regional data analysis indicates that Dhaka division has experienced the highest infection and mortality rates.
Regarding hospital services, 43,983 patients have been admitted to hospitals since mid-March, of whom 40,090 have been discharged following recovery.
To combat the outbreak, the EPI and Surveillance branch of the DGHS is conducting the “National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026”.
The campaign has successfully exceeded its primary goals, achieving a national coverage rate of 102 percent. Against an initial target of 18,015,064 children, the authorities have administered vaccines to 18,313,033 children to date. In the last 24 hours alone, 39,734 children received the measles-rubella vaccine.
At the divisional level, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Chattogram divisions recorded the highest coverage at 103 percent, while Sylhet Division recorded the lowest at 99 percent.
The vaccination drive in City Corporation areas has also seen significant success, reaching 104 percent overall coverage. A total of 19,78,248 children have been vaccinated against a target of 19,05,950.
Among the corporations, Gazipur City Corporation achieved the highest coverage at 110 percent, followed by Rajshahi City Corporation at 108 percent. Coverage in other major areas includes Dhaka North (106%), Chattogram (103%), and Dhaka South (102%). Conversely, Rangpur City Corporation fell slightly short of its target, recording 98% coverage.
