The government has appointed 1,051 executive magistrates to maintain law and order during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The appointments were made through an official notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday.
The appointed magistrates will be responsible for conducting mobile courts from 8 to 14 February, overseeing election-related law enforcement activities, and ensuring a peaceful environment across the country.
This measure is part of the government’s efforts to uphold public order during the election period and prevent criminal activities.
The executive magistrates will work in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies, including the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard, to implement security protocols.
They will also conduct mobile court proceedings based on the Criminal Procedure Code (1898), as amended by the Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act, 2009.
Their duties will focus on addressing violations, ensuring compliance with election laws, and preventing unrest.
The Ministry of Public Administration’s notification also highlighted the training and reporting protocols for the appointed magistrates.
A mandatory Zoom training session for the magistrates has been scheduled for 5 February. Magistrates from Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Dhaka will attend the training in the morning, while those from Khulna, Barishal, Chittagong, and Sylhet will attend in the afternoon.
The Zoom meeting IDs and passcodes will be provided to the officials via mobile phones and email.
Appointed magistrates are required to report to their District Magistrates or Returning Officers by 7 February and submit a report confirming their participation.
A copy of this report will be sent to the Ministry of Public Administration by 8pm on the same day.
In addition, district magistrates will assign specific duties and responsibilities to the executive magistrates within their jurisdictions. They must ensure that the magistrates provide regular updates on the operation of mobile courts and submit daily reports to the district authorities.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring the smooth, transparent, and peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections.
