The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 10 fishermen stranded in the sea northwest of St Martin’s Island after their boat’s engine failed.
Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Coast Guard media officer, confirmed the rescue to Times of Bangladesh around 11:30pm Monday.
The fishing boat “FB Samiha” had left Mistri Para ghat at Shah Porir Dwip in Teknaf last Thursday. The vessel became disabled around 9am Monday when its engine malfunctioned.
They contacted the Coast Guard’s Shah Porir Dwip outpost by mobile phone around 1pm seeking emergency help.
Upon receiving the distress call, a rescue team was immediately deployed to the location. The team rescued the fishermen alive and secured the boat.
Following the rescue, the fishermen were provided with first aid and necessary assistance before being handed over to the boat’s owners.
Lt Commander Sabbir added the Bangladesh Coast Guard remains committed to ensuring the security of the country’s coastal and riverine regions. The force regularly conducts patrols and disaster rescue operations to safeguard the lives of fishermen.
