Afroza Khanam Rita, elected from the Manikganj-3 constituency, has been appointed as the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism. Her father, the prominent industrialist Harunur Rashid Munnu, served as a minister without portfolio in the 2001 BNP-led government.
In the junior cabinet ranks, Farzana Sharmin Putul, the lawmaker for Natore-1, has taken office as the state minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare. Her father, Fazlur Rahman Patal, was a state minister in both the 1991 and 2001 BNP administrations.
MA Muhit, representing Sirajganj-6, has been named the state minister for Health and Family Welfare. He is the son of the renowned ophthalmologist MA Matin, who served as the deputy prime minister during the Ershad regime.
The BNP’s Organising Secretary, Aninda Islam Amit, elected from Jashore-3, is the new state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. His father, Tariqul Islam, held ministerial positions in the BNP governments of 1991 and 2001.
Ishraque Hossain, the MP for Dhaka-6, has been assigned the portfolio of State Minister for Liberation War Affairs. His father, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, was a state minister in 1991, a full minister in 2001, and also served as the Mayor of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation.
The state minister for Foreign Affairs is Shama Obayed, representing Faridpur-3. Her father, KM Obaidur Rahman, was a key organiser of the Liberation War and served in the cabinets of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad, and Ziaur Rahman.
Ahammad Sohel Manjur, elected from Pirojpur-2, has been appointed State Minister for Housing and Public Works. His father, Nurul Islam Manjur, was a member of the cabinets under both Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad.
Representing Chattogram-5, Mir Mohammad Helaluddin has taken charge as the state minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs. His father, Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin, served in the cabinet of the 2001 BNP government.
Finally, Yeaser Khan Chowdhury, the MP for Mymensingh-9, is the state minister for Information and Broadcasting. His father, Anwarul Hossain Khan Chowdhury, served as an advisor to Ziaur Rahman.
